Co-Creating the School of the Future Through Youth-Driven Innovation

Client Overview

Europe House, established by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, serves as a platform for civic engagement, youth activation, and innovation. In early 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education systems worldwide, Europe House partnered with Solveo to rethink the future of learning by empowering young people to co-create real solutions.

The Challenge

The pandemic exposed deep gaps in traditional education systems—lack of digital readiness, low student engagement, and outdated teaching methods.

Europe House approached Solveo with a clear goal: bring together students, educators, and innovators to reimagine what schools could look like in a post-pandemic world. The objective was to uncover user-centered solutions that could reshape the learning experience and address long-standing issues that the pandemic had only intensified.

Our Approach

We designed and facilitated a large-scale open innovation program aimed at involving students directly in the process of designing the school of the future.

Using the Design Thinking methodology, we brought together youth from across North Macedonia to explore challenges within the current education system and generate actionable, student-led ideas. The process encouraged them to question outdated assumptions, uncover unmet needs, and apply structured creativity to propose new models of learning.

Over the course of the program, our facilitators worked closely with students to:

  • Identify critical pain points in learning, teaching, and communication

  • Ideate and prototype potential improvements for both in-person and digital education

  • Build and test early-stage concepts to validate user interest and viability

What set this program apart was the level of ownership the students had throughout. They weren’t just participants—they were the key stakeholders shaping solutions for their own future.

Outcomes

  • Developed multiple user-centered concepts aimed at improving classroom experience, curriculum design, and digital engagement

  • Validated solutions through real feedback from peers, mentors, and facilitators

  • Built design and innovation skills among student participants

  • Established a framework for how co-creation and youth input can be used to solve complex, systemic challenges in education
